This module explores the foundational theories of language acquisition and the latest teaching methodologies. You will examine linguistic systems in depth and learn how to identify and solve common classroom challenges. The assessment consists of two 90-minute written exams that ensure your understanding is rigorous and aligned with Cambridge standards.
These exams are taken in person at International House Quito. Ideal for teachers who want to strengthen their theoretical and analytical skills, Module 1 enhances your classroom language awareness and equips you with the tools to plan effective, well-informed lessons.
Developing Professional Practice Language, Methodology & Resources
Module 2 focuses on applied teaching skills and empowers you to plan, teach, reflect and evaluate with confidence. You will build a professional portfolio that includes lesson plans, observed teaching practice and critical written reflections. One of your lessons will be assessed externally.
This module gives you the option to teach your own students or work with classes provided by the training center, along with guided support during planning and practice sessions. It is a transformative journey from theory to practice that significantly boosts your classroom impact.
This final module involves completing an in-depth research project of 4,000 to 4,500 words in a specialist area of English language teaching. You will integrate theory with classroom research, refine your course and lesson planning, conduct a needs analysis and design effective assessments. This module is not just academic; it showcases your ability to design, research and implement advanced ELT strategies. It prepares you for leadership roles and specialisation within the global English language teaching community.
